The mont saint-michel
It all began with a long-awaited visit from a childhood friend.
A hot July in Paris and it had been ages since she’d been here.
On the spur of the moment, we decide we’ll go and visit Mont Saint- Michel. She’d never been. I had. Countless times.
We made our plans and arrived at the train station in Pontorson, boarded the shuttle bus that brings us to the bridge to cross to this hilly island.
Yet again, I was humbled by the sight of this wonderful abbey high in the distance. The island whose hilly paths lead up to wonderful views all around. Best to go early morning, before the hoards of visitors arrive. Best to sort out your lunch reservation early too. My favorite? La Mere Poulard. Opening it’s doors in 1888. Try the omelet. Cooked over an woodfire and a puffy delight!
My friend was just overwhelmed with the raw beauty of the place.
Yes - Mont Saint-Michel. Always a good idea!
