Paris - the idea
Pont Alexandre III in Paris
The promise of Spring. I love walking across this bridge. Sunset is best, twilight is downright romantic as its lamps light up the waning light.
This bridge was a gift from Russia to Paris to mark their alliance in 1896. It was completed in time for the World’s Fair of 1900 along with the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais. It’s named after the Czar- Alexandre III. It’s twin stands in Saint Petersburg designed by no less than Gustave Eiffel.
Hearing the whirring of the Seine River below, watching the boats float by, I wave to all these hopeful tourists and think….Where are they on their journey in Paris? Have they climbed the Eiffel Tower? Seen Paris in all its glory? Perhaps they decided to climb the Arc de Triumph instead for that view of the city as it spans out like a wagon wheel from Place Charles De Gaulle - Etoile.
It all begins with an idea. “Paris is always a good idea.” Thank you Miss Audrey Hepburn. She’s not wrong…
